The Huberman Breath, developed by Dr. Alex Huberman, is the sigh of relief on steroids. This breath is great when the fire is running too hot. You can feel when this happens as your breath will switch from nasal breathing to mouth breathing. The Huberman breath is the ultimate down regulation tool.
The breath itself trains your small intercostal respiration muscles to fully stretch out and your lungs to maximize their respiratory efficiency. Ultimately, it's about effecting the change of gases in your body and the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide. If you want to geek out on the science, I recommend checking out his podcast and website.
I use this breath in between reps or sets, when I'm taking a break on the trail after a hard MTB ride or any other elevated heart rate moment.
The technique is simple: a double nasal inhale & let the exhale fall out.
The first inhale is short and quick. I think of trying to inhale through the tip of my nose.
The second inhale is full and deep. I'm filling my canister all the way up.
The exhale I allow to drop out of my mouth. I don't push the air out with any force. Just let go.
Consider this the "tactical downshift." Three Huberman breaths can completely change your physiological state when you need it most.
Find your breath.

The Ocean Breath is the same as the perfect breath with added purpose and power. You are adding resistance to the exhale.

Day 24 Breath for Resilience
Breathing for resilience isn't about suffering. This is about intentionally doing hard things and learning to stick within your breath.
I use a sauna and cold plunge to frame this concept, but it can be applied to all the uncomfortable parts of life.
