Day 18 Wim Hof
Find Your Breath
•
16m
Wim Hof popularized this style of breath. There are many names, but the mad Dutchman brought it to the masses. This method triggers your "fight or flight" with the rapid inhales and then challenges you to find peace on the hold. A balance of fire and ice.
Super ventilation is using your breath to supercharge your body with oxygen. Wim Hof's method is a deliberate inhale and dropping the exhale. Your respiration rate goes up meaning more oxygen to your system. You will feel tingly maybe even anxious. The human body processes anxiety and excitement the same way. Don't be alarmed when you feel this.
The other side of this method is the exhale hold. You've super charged your system. Your body has everything it needs. After a specific off gas, letting out all your air, you hold. This is the peace. We talked about BOLT scores. This method will exponentially boost your BOLT score. The average person starts around 43 seconds. After this protocol for a month, my breath hold jumped to 5 minutes! I could listen to two whole songs before I took another inhale.
As a personal trainer, I have never seen another method, of any kind, boost physiological performance like this breath technique. I lowered my resting heart rate 13 beats a minute. My respiration rate dropped.
When performing this, don't stand or get in the water afterwards. Find a comfortable seat or lie down. You will feel light headed, especially in the beginning of this practice. I recommend allowing yourself some time and space after the practice.
Find your breath.
